On Linear Eigenvalue Buckling.
A short article on the formulation of linear (bifurcation) buckling, a type of instability analysis for elastic structures, and the manner this is addressed by the finite element method. Answering the question of what is and how linear buckling eigenvalue works. The approach discussed herein is based on the observation that the transition from stability to instability can be indicated by the fact that [U] (the total potential energy) ceases to be positive definite. This is called the energy method; it's characterised by the question: what is the value of the load for which the potential energy of the system ceases to be positive definite?
